First Look: Davidson’s Exclusive Model 20 Revolver

0

Smith & Wesson and Davidsons have launched a limited run of Model 20 HD (Heavy Duty) N-frame revolvers. The original Model 20 HD was one of Smith & Wesson’s first ever N-frame (large frame) revolvers and predates the classic Registered Magnums of the mid 1930s. In fact, it was chambered for a revolver cartridge that could be considered the proto .357 Mag. round, the .38/44, which could best be described as an upcharged and hot rodded .38 Spl. cartridge. The Smith & Wesson Model 20’s more powerful round and larger frame are part of what gave it its “Heavy Duty” moniker. Original Model 20 revolvers are amongst some of the most significantly historical handguns both amongst double-action revolvers and in Smith & Wesson’s existence.

This new run of modern 2024 Model 20 revolvers aren’t chambered for the old .38/44 revolver cartridge, which is obsolete. Instead, these guns are chambered for .357 Mag. while still embodying the original features and aspects that make the Model 20 such a distinguished large frame double action revolver. The outline of the newest model still matches the original, complete with the classic fixed “half moon” front sight and fixed rear sight. This six shot wheelgun also includes another distinctive cue, the half lug underbarrel ejector rod shroud. Even the new production wooden revolver grips for this 2024 model include the carved diamond shape where their screw is along with a classically profiled contour.
